~Governor marks Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring Hispanic community organization~

TALLAHASSEE - Governor Bush recognized the Hispanic Human Resources Council, Inc. of West Palm Beach as this week.s Points of Light Award recipient.

.During Hispanic Heritage Month, it is fitting that we recognize groups and individuals that promote cultural awareness and provide services within the Hispanic community,. said Governor Bush. .The Hispanic Human Resources Council has a long history of dedicated service to the Hispanic community that has enriched the lives of many Floridians..

Established in 1977, the Hispanic Human Resources Council, Inc. (HHRC) is a nonprofit community-based organization that addresses the service needs of the community and improves cultural awareness and understanding among members of the Hispanic community. HHRC has implemented a variety of intergenerational, multicultural service programs, which include quality childcare, senior programs, business and economic development, affordable housing, advocacy, translation and interpreter services, employment and training, and information and referral. HHRC operates two child development centers serving over 350 children and families. Both centers are Gold Seal Schools accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children providing quality child care for low income, disadvantaged families and children at risk.

.It has been a privilege to work with an agency that has made such an impact in Palm Beach County for those that are less fortunate,. said Jorge Avellana, Executive Director of the HHRC. .Throughout the history of our agency we have collaborated with all governmental entities for the purpose of education, welfare and living conditions for all residents of the area without regard to nationality or race. Only by working in this fashion we have made Palm Beach County a better and more harmonious community..

The Governor's Points of Light Award, sponsored by Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, recognizes a Florida resident or organization that demonstrates exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly.
